Welcome!
My name is Martha and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing Latine/x-centered therapy in Washington and California.
I am bi-lingual (Spanish/English) and I provide holistic services with a social justice and psycho-spiritual liberation consciousness that are aligned with natural cycles and growth.

I also work from the perspective that much of what is commonly labeled as "mental illness" is actually a natural reaction to the challenges of living in an oppressive and colonized society, navigating systems built on those foundations, and being raised in families affected by the lingering repercussions of these systems.

Raíces
Like many Mexican families in the U.S., my roots include the farm labor of my parents and family. The politics of migration weave a story of relocations, reinventions, separations, and unions across native lands. From each parent I was gifted the inclination to persevere, challenge, create, and migrate. To seguir adelante, with eyes to the future, and hearts full of dreams, is how I was raised. I dedicate my work to my parents, and call upon them and generations before when practicing these healing arts. Know that the work done here is not done alone, and you are in good company. Ometeotl

Why Terapia Nepantla?
Terapia Nepantla draws inspiration from Gloria Anzaldúa and Indigenous wisdom, exploring the concept of "nepantla," which signifies the experience of being in-between. This state can be fleeting, cyclical, or enduring, influencing the microcosm of the self and the macrocosm of one's connections to family, relationships, society, and politics.
Through my personal and professional journey, I've embraced these liminal spaces of nepantla for self-awareness, healing, and growth, both individually and collectively. In contrast to Western society's focus on rapid change, the illusion of certainty, and conformity as paths to happiness, Terapia Nepantla offers a slower, more nuanced approach that respects your pace and needs. Together, we can guide you towards a deeper, authentic, and enduring relationship with yourself, rooted in love, compassion, and respect.
